Easter Baked Ham Recipe

Hams come in many sizes. Allow ¾ to 1 per pound per person for a bone-in ham, ½ pound per person for a boneless ham.

Hams can be purchased as “Cook Before Eating” or “Fully Cooked.” Consult the label. Fully Cooked hams need only to be heated before serving, about 15-18 minutes per pound for whole hams, and 18-24 minutes per pound for a half ham in a 325° oven. The ham should reach 140° F. when a thermometer is inserted into the thickest part, or when the Pop Up ® Timer deploys.

A “Cook Before Eating” ham should be cooked in a 325° oven for 18-20 minutes per pound for hams weighing 10-15 pounds, and 20-25 minutes per pound for those weighing 5-7 pounds. Smaller hams, 3-5 pounds may take 35 minutes per pound. A thermometer should read 160° F., or the Pop Up ® Timer should deploy to assure doneness.

Hams may be scored on the surface with a sharp knife in a diamond pattern, and then studded with whole cloves before baking, if desired.

Any glaze that works with a fully cooked ham, or turkey ham can also be used for a cook before eating ham. Here are some easy glaze ideas that will add flavor and eye-appeal to your holiday ham.

Fruit Glaze

1 cup orange juice or pineapple juice
¼ cup brown sugar

Combine fruit juice and brown sugar and spoon over the ham about ½ hour before the ham is removed from the oven.

Honey and Mustard Glaze

1 cup honey
¼ cup prepared mustard, dijon mustard, or brown mustard
½ teaspoon dry mustard powder (optional)

Combine ingredients, and spoon over the ham about ½ hour before the ham is removed from the oven.

Maple and Spice Glaze

1 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine ingredients and spoon over the ham about ½ hour before the ham is removed from the oven.
